The successful candidate will communicate with customers regarding overdue accounts, negotiate appropriate repayment arrangements, maintain accurate records, and escalate unresolved cases when necessary. The role requires strong communication and negotiation skills, resilience, attention to detail, and the ability to meet recovery targets.

Key

Responsibilities

Monitor assigned accounts and identify outstanding and overdue debts.

Review account histories and determine appropriate recovery strategies.

Develop and implement effective action plans to recover outstanding payments.

Contact debtors by phone, email, letter, or other appropriate channels to discuss overdue accounts.

Clearly explain outstanding balances, payment

requirements, and available repayment options.

Negotiate realistic payment deadlines and structured repayment plans.

Follow up consistently on agreed payment arrangements and commitments.

Respond professionally to customer questions, complaints, and concerns.

Investigate payment discrepancies and work with relevant teams to resolve account issues.

Build respectful and professional relationships with debtors while maintaining appropriate boundaries.

Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of recovery activities, payment commitments, and account statuses.

Update debt collection databases and systems promptly after customer interactions.

Monitor recovery performance against assigned targets and deadlines.

Identify accounts that require additional intervention and escalate them to supervisors.

Recommend appropriate action for debtors who are unwilling or unable to settle outstanding obligations.

Prepare regular reports on recovery activities, collections, outstanding balances, and unresolved accounts.

Ensure all recovery activities comply with applicable laws, regulations, company policies, and ethical standards.

Support the preparation and escalation of cases for legal action when recovery efforts have been exhausted.

Maintain confidentiality when handling customer financial and personal information.

Perform other duties assigned by management.

Educational & Experience

Requirements

Degree or HND in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, Marketing, or a related field is preferred.

Proven experience in debt recovery, collections, credit control, customer service, or a related role.

Experience working with collection targets and tight deadlines.

Good knowledge of relevant debt recovery practices and legal

requirements.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and database management systems.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Strong interpersonal and customer relationship management skills.

Excellent negotiation and persuasion abilities.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Ability to remain polite, patient, and compassionate while confidently pursuing payment.

Strong attention to detail and accurate record-keeping skills.

Ability to work independently and manage a high volume of accounts.

High level of integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
