Role Overview

The Dispensing Technician will assist pharmacists and other healthcare professionals in delivering safe, timely, and efficient pharmacy services. The role requires strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to patient safety and quality service.

Key

Responsibilities

Receive, review, and accurately process prescriptions under the supervision of a pharmacist.

Prepare and dispense medicines in accordance with approved procedures and professional standards.

Label, package, and organize medications accurately for patient use.

Provide patients with clear and courteous information on the proper use and handling of their medicines, within the scope of the role.

Maintain accurate records of medicines dispensed and pharmacy transactions.

Monitor pharmacy stock levels and assist with inventory management.

Check medicines for correct quantities, expiry dates, storage conditions, and product integrity.

Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming dispensing environment.

Support the pharmacist in identifying and resolving dispensing discrepancies.

Handle patients’ enquiries professionally and refer clinical questions to the appropriate pharmacist or healthcare professional.

Follow hospital policies, pharmacy procedures, infection-prevention measures, and medication-safety standards.

Work collaboratively with pharmacists, nurses, doctors, and other members of the healthcare team.

Protect patient confidentiality and maintain professional standards at all times.

Educational Qualification

Degree or Diploma in Pharmacy Technology, Dispensing Technology, or a related pharmacy discipline.

Relevant professional registration or certification, where applicable, will be an advantage.

Experience & Competencies

Previous experience in a hospital, clinic, retail pharmacy, or similar healthcare setting is an advantage.

Demonstrate strong attention to detail and accuracy.

Communicate effectively with patients and healthcare professionals.

Demonstrate excellent customer-service and interpersonal skills.

Work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Manage multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Demonstrate integrity, professionalism, and commitment to patient safety.
