UTAS is seeking a committed and academically accomplished Lecturer in Anatomy to join the School of Medicine and Health Sciences.
The successful candidate will deliver high-quality anatomy instruction, support practical and laboratory-based learning, supervise student research, contribute to academic development, and undertake research and scholarly activities in the relevant area of specialisation.
The role offers an opportunity to contribute to the development of a growing medical and health sciences academic environment while supporting the University’s commitment to excellence in teaching, research, innovation, and community engagement.
Key
Teaching & Learning
Plan and deliver lectures, tutorials, seminars, and laboratory sessions in Anatomy at the undergraduate level.
Contribute to postgraduate teaching and academic activities where required.
Develop engaging teaching materials that support effective learning and practical understanding of anatomical concepts.
Review and update course content, curricula, syllabi, and teaching resources in line with current academic and professional standards.
Use appropriate teaching methods and technology to enhance student learning.
Assess student learning through examinations, assignments, practical sessions, and other approved assessment methods.
Provide constructive feedback to students and support their academic development.
Research & Scholarly Activities
Conduct high-quality research in Anatomy and relevant areas of specialisation.
Publish research findings in reputable peer-reviewed journals.
Develop research collaborations within and outside the University.
Identify and pursue opportunities for research grants and external funding.
Contribute to research projects that address relevant health, scientific, and societal challenges.
Present research findings at conferences, seminars, workshops, and other academic forums.
Student Supervision & Mentorship
Supervise undergraduate final-year research projects.
Supervise postgraduate dissertations and research activities where required.
Mentor students and provide academic guidance throughout their programmes.
Support teaching assistants, junior academic staff, and postgraduate students in relevant academic activities.
Promote a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
Academic Administration & Governance
Participate actively in departmental, school, faculty, and University committees.
Contribute to curriculum development, academic planning, quality assurance, and programme review activities.
Participate in examination, assessment, accreditation, and other academic processes.
Attend academic meetings and contribute constructively to institutional decision-making.
Support the development of the School of Medicine and Health Sciences and the broader strategic objectives of UTAS.
Community Engagement & Professional Service
Participate in community outreach and extension activities aligned with the University’s mission.
Provide professional consultancy and expert services in Anatomy and related areas where appropriate.
Build productive relationships with healthcare, academic, research, and professional institutions.
Contribute to initiatives that promote the University’s impact on society.
Other Duties
Perform other academic, administrative, and professional duties assigned by the Head of Department, Dean, Vice-Chancellor, or University Council.
Qualifications & Experience
PhD or equivalent qualification in Anatomy or a closely related relevant field from a recognised university.
Candidates with relevant clinical backgrounds should possess the appropriate recognised professional qualification where applicable.
Post-qualification teaching or research experience in an analogous institution of higher learning is an advantage.
Evidence of scholarly publications in Anatomy or the relevant area of specialisation is an advantage.
Demonstrated ability to teach effectively at the undergraduate level.
Demonstrated ability to supervise student research projects.
Evidence of research activity, academic contribution, or grant activity is an advantage.
Strong computer literacy and ability to use digital tools to support teaching, research, and academic administration.
