About the Role

UTAS invites applications from qualified and committed Clinicians to join the School of Medicine and Health Sciences.

Successful candidates will contribute their clinical expertise to undergraduate and postgraduate medical education while supporting research, student supervision, professional development, community outreach, and academic governance. Candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching, clinical excellence, research, and the development of future healthcare professionals.

Key

Responsibilities

Teaching & Learning

Plan and deliver lectures, tutorials, seminars, clinical teaching sessions, and practical sessions at the undergraduate level.

Contribute to postgraduate teaching and professional training where required.

Develop, review, and update course materials, curricula, syllabi, and clinical teaching resources.

Apply effective and innovative teaching methods to strengthen students’ clinical knowledge and professional competencies.

Assess student learning through examinations, clinical assessments, assignments, presentations, and other approved methods.

Provide constructive feedback and academic guidance to students.

Integrate current clinical evidence, professional standards, and relevant healthcare practices into teaching.

Promote patient-centred, ethical, and safe clinical practice among students.

Clinical & Professional Practice

Apply current clinical knowledge and professional standards to academic and clinical teaching activities.

Support clinical skills development and practical training for medical and health sciences students.

Promote professionalism, ethical conduct, patient safety, and effective clinical decision-making.

Maintain appropriate professional standards and remain current with developments within the relevant clinical speciality.

Collaborate with healthcare facilities and professional institutions to strengthen clinical training and student exposure.

Research & Scholarly Activities

Conduct research in the relevant clinical or medical speciality.

Publish research findings in reputable peer-reviewed journals.

Develop collaborative research initiatives with academic, clinical, and professional institutions.

Identify and pursue research grants and external funding opportunities.

Present research findings at conferences, seminars, workshops, and other academic forums.

Contribute to evidence-based healthcare and the University’s research and innovation agenda.

Student Supervision & Mentorship

Supervise undergraduate final-year projects and clinical research activities.

Supervise postgraduate dissertations and research projects where required.

Mentor students and provide guidance on academic, professional, and clinical development.

Support junior academic staff, teaching assistants, and postgraduate students.

Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.

Academic Administration & Governance

Participate in departmental, school, faculty, and University committees, boards, and governance structures.

Contribute to curriculum development, programme reviews, accreditation activities, and academic quality assurance.

Participate in examinations, assessments, academic meetings, and other institutional activities.

Support the development and review of medical and health sciences programmes.

Contribute to the strategic development of the School of Medicine and Health Sciences.

Community Engagement & Professional Service

Participate in community outreach, extension services, and health promotion activities aligned with the University’s mission.

Provide professional consultancy and expert services within the relevant clinical speciality where appropriate.

Build effective relationships with healthcare institutions, professional bodies, research organisations, and community stakeholders.

Contribute to initiatives that improve healthcare education and community health outcomes.

Other Duties

Perform any other duties assigned by the Head of Department, Dean, Vice-Chancellor, or University Council.

Qualifications & Experience

Possess a PhD or equivalent qualification in the relevant field of specialisation from a recognised university, where applicable to the academic discipline.

Clinician candidates must hold a Fellowship of a recognised professional college, such as FGCS, FWACS, FWACP, or an equivalent recognised professional body.

Hold the appropriate professional registration and licensing required to practise within the relevant clinical discipline.

Post-qualification teaching or research experience in an analogous institution of higher learning is an advantage.

Evidence of publications in the relevant area of specialisation is an advantage.

Demonstrated ability to teach effectively at undergraduate level.

Demonstrated capacity to supervise student research and clinical learning.

Computer literacy is required.
