About the Role

The Mine Controller will monitor underground personnel, equipment, production activities, and operational systems from the mine control environment. The successful candidate will maintain accurate and timely information to support safe decision-making, emergency response, production optimisation, equipment utilisation, and operational reporting.

This role requires strong analytical ability, attention to detail, computer proficiency, effective communication, and the ability to remain focused and responsive in a fast-paced underground mining environment.

Key Duties and

Responsibilities

Mine Control & Personnel Accountability

Maintain accurate records of all employees and contractors entering and exiting the underground mine.

Monitor personnel tracking systems to maintain accurate accountability and compliance with access-control procedures.

Maintain real-time information on personnel

locations to support emergency preparedness, evacuation, and mine rescue operations.

Monitor refuge chamber occupancy and emergency communication systems.

Immediately identify, report, and escalate safety incidents, hazards, abnormal conditions, and emergency situations.

Maintain accurate and confidential mine control information in accordance with company policies and procedures.

Production Monitoring

Monitor ore production, mine development, production advance rates, tonnes mined, ore movement, and overall operational performance.

Track production performance against shift, daily, weekly, and monthly targets.

Monitor material movement and identify production delays, constraints, and bottlenecks.

Monitor material-handling systems, including trucks, loaders, ore passes, crushers, fill passes, and remote operating systems.

Communicate production constraints and operational issues promptly to relevant supervisors and departments.

Support operational teams with accurate and timely production information to facilitate effective decision-making.

Fleet & Equipment Monitoring

Monitor the

location, status, utilisation, and productivity of underground mobile equipment.

Track fleet deployment and support the coordination of equipment in line with operational priorities.

Monitor equipment availability, utilisation, productivity, and downtime.

Identify equipment-related delays and communicate maintenance

requirements to the appropriate departments.

Track equipment movements and performance using fleet management, GPS, and equipment-monitoring systems.

Monitor key equipment performance indicators and highlight trends requiring management attention.

Support maintenance and mining teams by providing timely information on equipment status and operational

requirements.

Data Management & Reporting

Capture, validate, analyse, and maintain accurate data from fleet management, personnel tracking, production, and mine monitoring systems.

Ensure the integrity, accuracy, confidentiality, and timely availability of mine control information.

Prepare accurate shift reports, production summaries, delay reports, dashboards, and other operational reports.

Use operational data to identify trends, performance gaps, production constraints, and opportunities for improvement.

Provide reliable data and analysis to support operational planning and management decision-making.

Maintain appropriate records and ensure data remains accessible and properly organised.

Systems & Monitoring

Operate and monitor mine control, fleet management, personnel tracking, and other relevant operational systems.

Use Pitram or similar mine control and fleet management systems to monitor underground activities.

Monitor GPS-based equipment and personnel tracking systems.

Support the monitoring of fatigue and safety systems.

Monitor relevant seismic and mine monitoring systems, including GMAP where applicable.

Work effectively with networked control systems and operational software platforms.

Identify system abnormalities and escalate technical issues to the relevant support teams.

Environmental & Compliance Support

Support the implementation of the company’s Environmental Management System and relevant environmental procedures.

Maintain awareness of environmental

requirements relevant to underground mining operations.

Support accurate monitoring and reporting of operational information relevant to environmental and compliance

requirements.

Maintain records in accordance with company policies and applicable standards.

Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate should have

A Bachelor’s Degree in a Science-related discipline from a recognised university.

At least 2 years’ experience working with computer applications and operational data systems, preferably in an underground mining or similar industrial environment.

Practical experience using Pitram, Microsoft Excel, and Power BI for data analysis, monitoring, and reporting.

Proficiency in mine control and/or fleet management systems, with experience using Pitram or a similar platform preferred.

Advanced Microsoft Excel skills for data capture, validation, analysis, and reporting.

Good knowledge of database systems and data-management principles.

Familiarity with networked control systems and operational software platforms.

Knowledge of fleet management systems, GPS, equipment management, fatigue monitoring, and safety monitoring systems.

Familiarity with GMAP seismic monitoring systems will be an advantage.

Knowledge of environmental management systems relevant to mining operations, including ISO 14001, will be an advantage.

A valid Ghanaian Driver’s Licence, preferably Class C and E.

Strong computer literacy, particularly in word processing, spreadsheets, databases, data analysis, and reporting applications.

A minimum of Senior Secondary School education or its equivalent.
