Preschool Assistant Teacher (Full-Time)

Location: Accra Campus

Key

Responsibilities

Curriculum Support

Assist the Lead Teacher in planning, preparing, and delivering engaging, age-appropriate lessons and learning experiences aligned with the Early Years curriculum.

Support classroom activities including arts and crafts, story time, music, outdoor play, and collaborative learning experiences.

Encourage children’s curiosity, creativity, independence, and active participation in learning.

Provide individual and small-group support to help children achieve their developmental and learning goals.

Classroom Management

Maintain a clean, organised, safe, and welcoming classroom environment that promotes effective learning.

Prepare teaching materials, learning resources, and classroom displays to support daily activities.

Assist the Lead Teacher in implementing positive behaviour management strategies and supporting children’s emotional wellbeing.

Contribute to creating a positive, inclusive classroom culture where every child feels valued and respected.

Child Supervision & Care

Supervise children during classroom activities, outdoor play, meal times, and rest periods, ensuring their safety and wellbeing at all times.

Assist children with personal care routines, including toileting, handwashing, meal support, and hygiene practices, while promoting independence.

Foster positive peer relationships by encouraging cooperation, kindness, and respectful behaviour.

Support children in developing social and emotional skills, including appropriate conflict resolution.

Communication & Documentation

Share observations of children’s learning, behaviour, and developmental progress with the Lead Teacher to support communication with parents and caregivers.

Maintain accurate records of attendance, developmental milestones, and daily classroom activities.

Assist with preparing classroom documentation and learning evidence as required.

Participate actively in parent-teacher meetings, school events, and other community engagement activities.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills & Experience

The Ideal Candidate Should Have

A Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education.

A minimum of two (2) years’ experience supporting preschool-aged children, preferably within a Cambridge curriculum or international school setting.

Demonstrated experience supporting engaging classroom activities that promote children’s learning and development.

Experience assisting with school-wide activities and events that enrich early childhood education.

The ability to observe children’s progress and provide constructive feedback to the Lead Teacher.

A sound understanding of child development principles, early years pedagogy, and safeguarding practices.
