We are seeking an experienced and safety-focused Senior Crane Technician to join our maintenance team at Akyem, New Abirem. The successful candidate will provide technical expertise in the inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and safe operation of cranes and lifting equipment.

Job Summary

The Senior Crane Technician will maintain and support the reliability and availability of cranes, hoists, lifting equipment, and associated mechanical and electrical systems.

The role requires strong technical knowledge, practical troubleshooting skills, attention to detail, and a firm commitment to safe lifting practices and equipment reliability.

Key

Responsibilities

Inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair cranes, hoists, and associated lifting equipment.

Conduct scheduled preventive and corrective maintenance in accordance with approved maintenance plans.

Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and control-system faults and implement effective repairs.

Perform routine inspections and identify equipment defects, wear, and potential safety hazards.

Test crane components and safety systems to confirm safe and reliable operation.

Maintain lifting equipment in accordance with manufacturer specifications and approved maintenance procedures.

Conduct functional tests following maintenance, repairs, or component replacements.

Monitor the condition of critical crane components, including ropes, hooks, brakes, bearings, gears, motors, limit switches, and control systems.

Support crane commissioning, installation, modification, and upgrade activities when required.

Investigate recurring equipment failures and recommend practical solutions to improve reliability.

Maintain accurate maintenance records, inspection reports, work orders, and equipment history.

Provide technical guidance and support to junior technicians and maintenance personnel.

Coordinate with operations and maintenance teams to plan repairs and minimize equipment downtime.

Ensure tools, equipment, and spare parts meet required technical and safety standards.

Follow lockout/tagout, isolation, permit-to-work, and other approved safety procedures.

Promote safe lifting practices and immediately report unsafe equipment or working conditions.

Participate in risk assessments, toolbox meetings, safety inspections, and maintenance planning.

Support statutory inspections and certification activities for lifting equipment.

Ensure all maintenance activities comply with company procedures and applicable health and safety

requirements.

Perform other technical duties assigned by the maintenance supervisor or management.

Educational

Requirements

Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, or a related technical discipline.

Relevant crane, lifting equipment, or technical trade certification will be an advantage.

Experience & Competencies

Demonstrate substantial experience maintaining and repairing cranes, hoists, or other industrial lifting equipment.

Demonstrate strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and control systems.

Possess practical experience in fault finding, troubleshooting, equipment inspection, and preventive maintenance.

Demonstrate knowledge of crane safety systems and lifting equipment

requirements.

Read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, manuals, and technical documentation.

Demonstrate strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

Communicate effectively with technicians, engineers, operators, contractors, and supervisors.

Demonstrate strong attention to detail and commitment to equipment reliability.

Work effectively in a demanding mining or industrial environment.

Demonstrate strong safety awareness and consistently follow safe work procedures.

Lead and mentor junior technicians effectively.

Demonstrate initiative, reliability, and the ability to work independently when required.
