Position Overview
The Senior Lecturer – Physiology will provide academic leadership in teaching, research, postgraduate supervision, and professional engagement. The successful candidate will deliver high-quality instruction in Physiology, develop and strengthen postgraduate education, conduct impactful research, mentor academic staff, and contribute actively to the University’s academic and institutional development.
Key
Plan and deliver engaging lectures, tutorials, seminars, and laboratory sessions at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Design, develop, coordinate, and lead postgraduate programmes and courses in Physiology and relevant areas of specialisation.
Supervise MPhil and PhD students and serve as a primary examiner for postgraduate theses and dissertations.
Conduct high-quality research in Physiology and related fields and publish findings regularly in reputable, peer-reviewed journals.
Contribute to the advancement of knowledge and the intellectual development of Physiology and related disciplines.
Develop competitive research proposals, attract external research grants, and lead funded research projects.
Establish and maintain productive research collaborations with academic, professional, healthcare, and industry partners.
Serve on departmental, faculty, and university-wide committees and contribute actively to academic governance.
Mentor lecturers and junior academic staff in teaching, research, postgraduate supervision, and professional development.
Engage in community outreach, professional consultancy, and extension activities that advance the University’s mission.
Contribute to curriculum development, programme review, quality assurance, and accreditation processes.
Promote innovative, technology-enabled approaches to teaching, learning, research, and academic administration.
Perform any other duties assigned by the Head of Department, Dean, Vice-Chancellor, or University Council.
Educational
Requirements &
Applicants should meet the following
Hold an appointment at the rank of Senior Lecturer or an equivalent rank at a recognised university or analogous institution with comparable academic standards; OR
Meet the
qualifications specified for appointment as a Lecturer and, in addition:Possess at least four (4) years of post-qualification teaching or research experience in an analogous institution of higher learning.
Have at least six (6) refereed publications in Physiology or a relevant area of specialisation.
Demonstrate proven capacity to teach effectively at postgraduate level.
Demonstrate experience in supervising postgraduate research, including MPhil and/or PhD students.
Demonstrate evidence of sustained research productivity and academic contribution appropriate to the Senior Lecturer rank.
Demonstrate computer literacy and the ability to use relevant digital technologies for teaching, research, and academic administration.
General

Evidence of research output, grant activity, scholarly publications, or academic contribution commensurate with the rank.
