Position Summary

The Underground Mining Engineer is responsible for planning, designing, and optimising underground mining activities to support safe, efficient, and cost-effective production. The successful candidate will work closely with operational and technical teams to deliver practical mine plans, manage engineering projects, and ensure compliance with statutory regulations and company standards.

Key Duties and

Responsibilities

Implement and maintain health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures to promote a safe and productive underground working environment.

Develop, implement, and continuously improve underground mine designs and planning processes in alignment with operational objectives and business strategy.

Prepare and deliver achievable short-, medium-, and long-term mine plans that support production targets.

Identify, assess, and maintain a comprehensive register of mine planning risks and opportunities, recommending appropriate mitigation strategies.

Coordinate mining engineering projects with operational teams and other engineering disciplines to ensure effective project delivery.

Design, plan, and optimise underground development, production, and infrastructure layouts.

Ensure accurate interpretation and implementation of underground mine designs during operational execution.

Identify opportunities to improve mining methods, productivity, efficiency, and operational performance.

Utilise specialist mine planning and design software to support engineering analysis, scheduling, and reporting.

Monitor underground development and production activities to ensure compliance with approved mine plans.

Oversee engineering-related construction activities to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, and to specification.

Monitor the condition, availability, and utilisation of mining equipment and recommend improvements where necessary.

Prepare and manage engineering budgets, forecasts, and technical reports while maintaining accurate operational records.

Ensure all engineering activities meet company standards, statutory

requirements, and operational specifications.

Collaborate with operational teams to drive continuous improvement initiatives and achieve production objectives.

Desired

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Mining Engineering or a related discipline.

Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of post-qualification experience, with at least three (3) years in the mining industry, preferably within underground mining operations.

Valid Blasting Certificate and/or Mine Supervisor’s Certificate of Competency.

Strong proficiency in mine planning and design software and other relevant engineering applications.

Sound knowledge of the Minerals and Mining Act of Ghana and other applicable mining legislation, with the ability to interpret and apply statutory

requirements.

Demonstrated leadership ability with experience coaching, mentoring, and developing teams.

Proven people management and stakeholder engagement skills within a mining environment.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to influence, collaborate, and build effective working relationships.

Valid Ghanaian Driving Licence with the ability to operate underground vehicles.

Strong commercial awareness and business acumen.

Excellent analytical, planning, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to work effectively under pressure while maintaining high standards of performance and safety.

High level of integrity, accountability, and commitment to continuous improvement.
